Start Your Journey Towards Accreditation as a Professional Family Mediator
Train With Family Law Mediation
Thank you, for your interest in pursuing accreditation as a Family Mediation Council (FMC) Accredited Family Mediator. We appreciate your commitment to this important field and your interest in family mediation training.
To become an accredited family mediator, there are several crucial steps you must follow. Firstly, you need to attend an FMC-approved foundation training course. This training will equip you with the necessary knowledge and skills to excel in your role. After completing the course, you can then register with the FMC as working towards accreditation.
Upon completion of your foundation training, there are two important steps to take:
1.
Join an FMC Member organisation.
2.
Find a Professional Practice Consultant (PPC).
Who Are The FMC
The Family Mediation Council (FMC) is a governing body that oversees family mediation services in England and Wales. It consists of five independent members: The College of Mediators, The Law Society, The Family Mediators’ Association, National Family Mediation, and Resolution, who collaborate as a unified entity.
As a unified body, the council enhances its professional members and practitioners by offering support and advocacy. It actively promotes family mediation across England and Wales and leverages its position to engage effectively with the government and other national stakeholders.
Who Are PPC
A "Professional Practice Consultant (PPC)" refers to someone who has entered into a contract with a mediator to provide professional practice consultancy and is listed as the mediator's PPC on the FMC Register. This individual is also commonly referred to as the "Primary PPC".
All mediators must enrol with an accredited PPC as part of their obligation.

Learn from Certified Consultants and Gain Valuable Skills and Expert Guidance
Once registered to an FMC-approved foundation training course, you can begin working on building a portfolio of evidence that demonstrates your competence in accordance with the FMC standards framework. This is an integral part of the accreditation process, as it allows you to showcase your abilities and experience as a mediator.
In addition to completing the foundation training and developing your portfolio, there are a few key requirements to keep in mind.
Firstly
You must join an FMC member organisation, which will provide you with valuable support and resources throughout your journey.
Secondly
You will also need to find a Professional Practice Consultant (PPC), an experienced mediator who holds full accreditation and works closely with mediators aspiring to become accredited. Your PPC will guide you through the process of producing your portfolio and play a pivotal role in your accreditation journey.
Once you have secured a PPC, you can register with the FMC as working towards accreditation. This marks an important milestone in your progression as a mediator. You can then focus on developing and refining your portfolio for submission.
